Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) is a UK-wide programme that helps businesses and organisations to improve their competitiveness or productivity through the better use of the knowledge, technology and skills that reside within knowledge bases such as universities.
A relationship is formed between a company and an academic institution, with each KTP employing a recently qualified person as an Associate to work in the company on a project of strategic importance to the business whilst aslo being supervised by the university.
Projects vary in length between 12 and 36 months. KTPs can be applied for throughout the year.
The Associates are either postgraduate researchers, university graduates, or individuals qualified to at least NVQ Level 4 or equivalent.
Company partners can include stable UK-based businesses of all sizes from all industrial sectors, charities and not-for-profit organisations, education institutions (LEAs and schools) and health organisations (hospitals and NHS Trusts).
Benefits to be gained from a KTP can include increased performance outputs in sales, profits, value of the business, competitive advantage, new jobs created and commercial benefits from application of intellectual property.
