Overview

This four day course offers an introduction into a wide range of basic techniques for the machine knitting novice.  You will learn the technical skills that will allow you to confidently develop your ideas, resulting in the creation of a unique range of fabric samples.

Course Fee

£160 (max 8 persons)

You will be provided with all basic materials.

Please bring a notebook and pen, and your own lunch.  Facilities for beverages will be available throughout the day.

Course Content 

  • Introduction to machines and yarns
  • Discuss personal ideas and aims
  • Cast on, plain knitting, cast off, colour/ changing yarns
  • Punch cards: creating different structures - tuck, slip, lace, Fairisle, weaving
  • Creating different patterns and colourways
  • Designing own punch card
  • Shaping: increase and decrease, transferring stitches, cables
  • Fabric manipulation: felting, cutting, distressing and embellishing
  • Understanding and application of basic machine knitting techniques.
