Fashion Design for Beginners

Overview
This two-day course is an introduction to the processes involved in fashion design. You will identify a target customer, gather inspiration, create a mood board / colour palette and get designing!
Course Tutor
Niki Groom is an experienced fashion illustrator with 11 years’ industry experience, including five years as a senior designer at Monsoon. As an illustrator, she has worked with Vogue, Saatchi & Saatchi and Colette Dinnigan.

Course Fee
£100 (max 10 persons per course)
You will be provided with all basic drawing materials.
Please wear old clothes and bring a large collection of things that you love to help to inspire you. For example: magazine cuttings, photographs, bits of lace/ribbon, paint colour cards, CD covers, scraps of wool, print and pattern ideas from nice wrapping paper, photocopies from books, etc. Bring along any other special medium that you may wish to use; paint, bits and pieces for collage, coloured pencils, sequins, scraps of fabric, metallic paints, ink.
You will also need an A4 sketchbook at least A4 size.
Please bring your own lunch. Facilities for beverages will be available throughout the day.
Course Content
Day One
- General overview of the design process: know your target customer / inspiration / create a mood board / create a colour palette / sketchbook work. Examples will be used to show each process.
- You will then choose who you want to design for - whether it's their Mum, Lady Ga Ga or Hobbs….it's up to you!
- Put together a mood board and colour palette.
Day Two
- In the morning you will start sketching out ideas in your sketchbook. There will be a template of a body to work on, for those not confident in drawing. You can use any medium you wish -whether pencil, paint, collage, coloured pencils.
- For those that want to take the next step, two final designs will be chosen and these will be 'drawn up'.
