SW Fashion & Textiles Network

3rd October 2009

Funding has been approved for a SW Fashion & Textiles Network to be established by a collaboration between the Arts University College Bournemouth, Bath Spa University and Falmouth University College of the Arts.

The fashion and textiles industry involves significant numbers of highly talented individuals operating in the context of a fragmented and dispersed industry. Analysis has shown that, not only is there a great migration of fashion and textile graduates out of the South West, but that those who do stay do not necessarily receive sufficient support to start or successfully develop their own business.

This project will identify the most effective mechanisms for business support for this sector and how the retention of fashion and textiles graduates withiin the region could be improve. It will enable access to practitioners and specialist support across the region and nationally, develop links with key regional manufacturers including reciprocal access to university services, and help graduates to make links with relevant companies in order to enter national and international markets.

The SW Fashion & Textile Network project is funded by the Knowledge Escalator Project, which is part financed by the European Union’s ERDF Competitiveness and Employment Programme 2007-13 securing £1,833,000 of ERDF investment through the South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA).
