Student Textiles Support Stroud Festival

17th May 2010

As part of this year's Stroud International Textiles Festival, a group of second year students from Bath Spa University's BA in Creative Arts (Mixed Media Textiles) course are showing a collection of new work.

The collection has been made in resonse to their research into artefacts housed in The Museum in the Park.  Artist-in-Residence, Deidre Nelson, has talked to the students about her work and shown them her work during her residency at the museum ,which was very inspiring.  The students have explored a variety of materials and techniques, including embroidery, knit, weave and print.  Each student has produced a folder containing a selection of their work plus an artist's statement.  These have been made available for public viewing, to give an insight into the ideas behind each piece.

"I want to say how thrilled and delighted I am with the work. It is wonderful and such a high standard", Lizzi Walton, Director of Stroud Festival.

We invite you to visit the Festival and have fun investigating the textile pieces - both inside and outside the museum. Some larger pieces are on exhibition in the Stroud Town Council window and the 'Westaff' office window in the town centre.

If you have any queries about the work, please contact the tutor Sue Bradley on s.bradley@bathspa.ac.uk.
