Robin Mukherjee as Writer-in-Residence for Bath Spa University

The School of Humanities and Cultural Industries is delighted to welcome Robin Mukherjee as Writer-in-Residence to support staff and students in creative writing.

In this role, Robin will be giving talks about the writing for the production industry and undertaking workshops with staff and students to increase understanding of this specialism and the skills needed to succeed in it.  Robin will aslo be mentoring two students, either undergraduates or Masters students, over a six month period each.

Over the last twenty five years, Robin’s work has stretched from art house cinema - in the esoteric tradition of Satyajit Ray - to mainstream British television.  Along the way he has written for radio and theatre and directed for both theatre and television.  He has also taught extensively, mainly in universities up to and including PhD level.

His feature film, ‘Swara Mandel’, (Dance of The Wind), premiered at The Venice Film Festival, was critically acclaimed worldwide and won many awards including the Audience Prize at the London Film Festival.

In addition to numerous television specials, featuring actors such as Brian Cox, John Thaw, Frances Barber, Andy Sirkis, Ioann Gruffudd and Kate Winslett, Robin has been a core writer on many highly successful series, helping to create and shape award-winning British dramas.

Robin’s series television credits include The Bill, Casualty, Eastenders, The Royal, Medics, Boon, Backup, Harry and Where The Heart Is. He also wrote four episodes of the series ‘Roman Mysteries’ for BBC 1, broadcasting in the summer of 2008. His most recent radio play, ‘A Fire In The Sun’ was transmitted on BBC Radio 4 in July 2008.

He is currently developing two feature films and a new series for television. His most recent film project, ‘Lore’ is scheduled for production in 2009 with Cate Shortland (Somersault) attached as Director.
