Behaviour: sonic ensemble at the Arnolfini
25th May 2010
On Friday 28th May 2010 there is the opportunity to see and experience 'Behaviour' - a sonic ensemble - at the Arnolfini Dark Room in Bristol between 8.00 and 10.00pm.
Behaviour is a 10-piece electronic and digital sonic ensemble, working with the full dynamic range of pin-drop fragility to occasional cascades of complex noise. Behaviour performances combine interpretations of ‘classic’ large ensemble improvisation works and truly original strategy driven compositions that respond to their rich and diverse orchestration and sound manipulations.
The ensemble’s detailed sonic palette is created from a fusion of sources. Each performer offers a unique contribution, developed through explorations into ‘instrumentalising’ found and adapted objects, ‘wrong’ uses of audio technology, and extended techniques on prepared instruments. Handmade controllers for real-time laptop software environments, adapted turntables, self designed and ‘circuit bent’ electronic instruments, and live capture/manipulation of microscopic sound worlds using contact microphones and coil pick-ups all find a home in Behaviour.
Behaviour is an ensemble of year three Creative Music Technology students from Bath Spa University, facilitated and directed by feedback performer Andy Keep. The project is in its sixth year and has a national reputation based on performances such as headlining Sonic Arts EXPO2007 with Evan Parker and as part of the Birtwistle celebrations at the Bath International Music Festival 2009.
Entry is free, so why not come see what all the fuss is about?
