Successful Freelancing in the Creative Industries

Freelancing can be a rewarding and flexible way of working. This workshop will show you how to go about it, particularly in the context of the very competitive creative industries sector.

This 3-hour workshop has been designed specifically for artists and creative practitioners who want to know more about freelancing in the Arts and Creative sectors. Students who attend the session will learn about the key issues when considering freelancing such as:

  • Freelancer - What is in it for you?
  • What is in it for clients?
  • The Downside!
  • What qualities do I need?
  • Starting up.
  • Skills and Business Development? What have I got and what do I need to develop?
  • Tips for success.

The session will also include a section on business and arts support networks beyond university and the importance of networking to the creative industries.

Trainer: John Hector, our Entrepreneur-in-Residence (Creative Industries), has been a freelancer for many years with a portfolio of clients in the Arts, Education and Private sectors.

All current Bath Spa University students are eligible to attend.
